IntroductionAs a North and Sherman site represents transfer zone due to high traffic of North Ave and Sherman Blvd, I wanted to turn it to the advantage of the community. A goal of the design was to attract people from outside of the community, engage their interest in the site. To achieve that goal focus was targeted to a space between buildings and roads.
Process
The design process consists of several steps: In the first step, I learned a pattern of acceleration of cars through North Ave and Sherman Blvd. Also, wind forces throughout a year. Both these research were important to find the best spot. In conclusion, the best spot was the intersection of North Ave and Sherman Blvd because when cars stop at traffic light people have a chance to observe a designed space. In the second step, I observed the way people of the community interact with each other at Tricklebee Cafe, to understand what is happening inside of the community, what is important for them. A conclusion was to create green space where people of community gather. The reason is people were planning different events. In the third step, I have started experimenting the space. In the process, the vision was expanded further. The new idea was expanding the designed outer space to inner space, which means linking these two spaces visually. It is essential for Matt Bohlman "Food incubator" business. In this way came term "Outside to Inside." |

Also, it could attract people from outside of the neighborhood, where it could boost local businesses like restaurants and cafes. Therefore, “Finney Library” and “Tricklebee Café” could be an anchor of revolution of the neighborhood. It will be very logical to start this transformation from this buildings. These buildings located next to W North Ave, which is one of the busy street of this neighborhood.
