The derelict space
The space next to Tricklebee Cafe was the derelict space chosen to progress the idea of a space where the community can engage in.
It will attract a new growth of community involvement from the neighborhood and beyond it as well. More of this process can be found here. citizenarchitects2017.weebly.com/process2.html

Gathering common human movement
The picture on the right is the human movement study to derive physical design for the derelict space next to Tricklebee. The study contributed in discovering how our bodies move throughout a space and the possible movements that can be taken and how much movement can affect the space and the user. This movement was then translated into separate design elements for the space in order to provoke non-linear movement for people. The focus on delineated movement in turn provokes a type of expression from people. Through observations and community engagement, when the linear path ends (the sidewalk), or is met with something out of the ordinary (empty lot, park, etc), we as humans are more inclined and interested in discovering what the possibilities are. This can mean a place to meet, a space to hold an event, or even just to cut across. From the community engagement, we learned that people i nthe community are eager to find nearby places to enjoy rather than Washington Park or Sherman park, which are too far to walk to . Either way, these spaces provoke non-linear thought whether the users are aware of it or not. |
Phases
In order to achieve the final product, phases are introduced as a safety net in order to prevent overspending due to the x-factors of under-utilization and unforeseen circumstances during construction, and longevity of the project.
